With 2013 almost behind us, what does 2014 hold in store for the job market? Experts are saying it is going to be a very competitive year. Close to 83% of employees will be looking for a new position, and most employers are planning on doing the majority of their hiring during the first part of the year. Experts are calling 2014 the “Year of Marketing.” So how will you market yourself and show yourself to be a desirable candidate?

Set a Goal

The first thing you need to do is set a goal. What is it that you’re trying to achieve? A new position, a promotion, maybe you’re happy with your current role, but would like an increase in pay? Whatever your desired outcome, it’s best to picture this new you and what it takes to get you there and set a goal.

Beef up your Social Media

Update your Linkedin profile: make sure that your profile is selling you and encompasses all of your skills. While setting your goals, you likely thought about what it will take to achieve them, so make sure you’re portraying that and matching your skills to your desired role. If you need assistance, seek out a company that assists in pumping up your profile. This is the year of marketing yourself, so you want to make sure to get it right!

Networking is Essential

Many times your connections will be the ones who connect you with the “right person.”  You want to reach the hiring manager before they even have the opening, so you’re the first one on their mind.

Rev up your Resume

Make sure to have your resume ready. Your resume should be tailored towards the job posting or your “goal job”, and your skills and accomplishments must match the job description. If you feel like you need a professional pair of eyes, our Resume writing and editing services are here to guide you.
