It’s almost May, which means graduation. With the changes in the job market, how does a new graduate approach their search? Keep reading for some tips for a new grad in the job market. Plus, some advice for Millennials, who might not know what they want to do—and that’s ok.

The Opportunity

Often times a graduate will seek a specific position. It’s important to let that go and keep your mind open to the possibilities—you can take a position and turn it into your dream job. Graduates often think they went to school for one thing, but the world has many endless opportunities waiting.

Be Prepared

Present yourself in a professional manner at all times by putting your best foot forward; you never know who you will meet, and should always have your resume ready to go at the drop of a hat.

Be Unique

Know what makes you unique and what you have to offer a future employer. Why should they hire you over the other person? Know your selling points.

Pull Yourself Together

So you’re not sure what you want to do. You may need to take time to gather yourself. A recent Today Show clip featured author Katherine Schwarzenegger talking about her new book,  I Just Graduated….Now What?. Aimed at Millenials, Schwarzenegger speaks on the importance of gathering yourself and to know your next step—even if that’s moving back home to get ahead.  You need to pause and take time to find what’s important to you.

As Schwarzenegger said on The Today Show, “there is no right path; there is only your path.” This is very important to keep in mind when looking for opportunities.  This is your life, so make your dreams come true. If you need to take time to become the best then do it. If you already know what you want to do, then take the steps to get there!
