John has been writing resumes for over seven years in addition to his professional career as the Director of Workforce Development for the North Carolina Biotechnology Center, an internationally-recognized and state-funded private non-profit corporation charged with creating jobs through support of research, education, and business. Combining his professional work with a passion for enabling professionals to reach their full potential, John has gained tremendous insight into the recruitment and hiring needs of life science, information technology, software development, healthcare, sales, engineering, and consulting companies large and small.
Through his professional work, John has researched and shaped strategies related to corporate recruiting, career preparation, workforce assessment, and skill standards. He has authored several influential publications and speaks frequently to professional societies and networking groups.
John spent five years working as a technical writer in the biotechnology and medical diagnostic industries. He holds a Master of Science in Technical Communication and a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from North Carolina State University. In addition, John was selected as a Marano Fellow in the Aspen Institute's 2012-2013 Sector Skills Academy, a one year fellowship providing emerging leaders with an opportunity for experiential learning with practical applications for present and future work in sector-specific workforce development. John has written over 500 resumes. In approaching the resume writing process, John works hard with, and on-behalf of, each client to identify core capabilities.
